The Product Design 100
Published and Curated by Design Burger
Editorial Design
An immersive overview of industrial design today, covering furniture, lighting, audio, transport, medical technology, 3D-printed trainers, and robots…
Designed to allow the imagery to be the only voice on the page, full-bleed photography is combined with a discreet project information layer.
Interspersed between the projects are a number of essays written by leading industrial designers: Norman Teague, Julie Richoz, Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd, Alastair Curtis, Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay. We selected an uncoated red paper to print these sections on to create a unique atmosphere and provide a pause between the flow of projects.
The book launch took the form of a weeklong exhibition as part of London Design Festival and Shoreditch Design Week. Design Burger designed a space that presented the book alongside a selection of the 100 products, allowing visitors to experience the work both within the pages and in the real world.
A series of talks was also held in the space. Collaborate’s Jon Cefai spoke with Alex Philpott from Design Burger and host Simon Hamilton about how the project came to life and the design and production decisions made along the way.
The book features projects from Alessi, Bang & Olufsen, Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, Tom Dixon, Google, Microsoft, Marc Newson, Nike, Nothing, Pearson Lloyd, Rimowa, Sigma, USM, Vitra, and Michael Young.
The book is available to buy via the Design Burger website here
